The EnterWASH programme is introduced in response to two major challenges in Ghana 1) Access to quality water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities are a huge challenge in Ghana; and 2) There are large numbers of young people who are competing for the same jobs and who lack the experience, support and financial capacity to start their own business. MDF West Africa and the Fair River International Association for Development (FARIAD) joined forces to pilot the EnterWASH programme, which offers an innovative solution to addressing these problems. The programme supports youth in addressing pressing challenges in the WASH value chain through facilitating
the creation of small sustainable and innovative businesses in the sector.
This is achieved through practical training, mentoring and coaching support from technical experts, and the provision of support in raising seed capital through crowdfunding. We believe that looking at the business side of WASH, demonstrating the opportunities, and stimulating innovation has the potential to significantly enhance the quality and range of WASH products and services in the country, and at the same time empower youth to launch exciting businesses in their communities.
